Douglas Coupland’s second Vancouver home was featured in the New York Times about a year ago.
I can’t say I’m a super fan of his but I do enjoy his quirkiness. I bought some of his coffee table books, The City of Glass, and Souvenir of Canada which I have to find amongst the junk I have in the house. I know it’s somewhere. I read JPod, a book describing a weird guy’s life and his job at a fictitious gaming company *cough EA cough*. It’s straight up weird. I have yet to finish Generation X and realizing why it’s been so difficult to read is because of the size of the book. No, not the length of the book but how I hold it in my hands. It’s awkward; I’m on page 70, after 2 years of owning it.
ANYWAY, back to his second home. Coupland an artist before he became a writer, installed many works of art throughout this original midcentury home, including his own creations. Coupland is quite the quirky one. It looks like a relatively simple home but you go in…

…and you see a gigantic Downy Fabric Softener bottle.

****Update: I found the Souvenir of Canada in the upstairs kitchen that we use for storage (yes, I have a small kitchenette sans stove). Now I’m on the hunt for the The City of Glass book around the house.****
