“Read the email” Rant
I finally sent out our save-the-dates via email (cheap and saves trees). I made a nice jpg with the announcement and wrote a little note at the bottom with a request to reply back with their current mailing address. And then, “Thanks! me and him”… blah blah blah.
Not only did we think this was a cheap way, but also efficient, n’est pas? Plus we would get a direct response and just copy/paste the address to the “wonderful” excel spreadsheet so there would be no mistakes when we mail the actual invitation out.
Imagine my (non) surprise when I received a handful of emails all saying the same thing, “Yes, this is my/our current email address… keep me/us posted” or not even that but a simple “Congratulations!” and nothing else. Ok, thank you for the congratulations but did you not read the rest of the email? What part of the email did it say email??? What part of the announcement says email??? I looked at the original email to make sure I didn’t make the mistake but no, it clearly says mailing address. Are you kidding me? And btw, it has nothing to do with age because that handful of emails came from all walks of life so it’s not an age-ist thing or whatever.
I even see this at work, too. Some people don’t read the email. I ask a bunch of questions but yet the reply has none of my questions answered but just with more questions… that I’ve already posed to the very person. I sometimes wonder if there is a use for email except to send forwards of YouTube clips or funny jokes or plain ol’ spam.
Anyway… thoroughly read the email. The sender will greatly appreciate it.
